“REXBURG – Hans Smith has always loved baseball, but has never thrown a pitch or swung a bat. He was born with Cerebral Palsy which confines him to a wheelchair and limits his ability to use his arms and hands. Smith’s limitations haven’t stopped him from learning how to operate a video game controller though.”

“Not only have we included the new Catcher Calling the Game mode to RTTS, or the new Pitching/Fielding trainings (blog coming soon), but also we’ve put a big emphasis on a lot of little things that have a big impact on the mode. As stated in a previous blog, the All-Star Futures Game™ and Home Run Derby™ also find their way into RTTS. We’re very excited about this year’s offering, and hope you are as well. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I wish you all the best of luck on your Road To The Show…..”

1 week until release date and the latest offering from SCEA on their blog covers the Realism added to the game in the form of little additions that keep the game feeling alive and organic.

“Beginning with last year’s version of The Show, we wanted to make the game even more accurate. In MLB 10: The Show, we have taken it further and added more to your gaming experience. New for this year’s edition are real-time players in the dugouts and bullpens, fireworks, rally towels, thundersticks, working digital and analog clocks, and much more. All these realistic enhancements to the game make MLB 10: The Show feel and sound like you are actually at the ballpark. Throughout this post we will focus on the stadium enchantments and how they make The Show come alive!…..”

“When we set out at the beginning of the year, one area we knew needed to be addressed was the addition of the Home Run Derby. As we began to dive into the feature, we thought rather than just offering it as a stand-alone feature (which it is), why not include it into all season-based modes’ MLB All-Star Week festivities. Now when you’re playing in Season, Franchise or Road To The Show, you’ll have the opportunity to play in the Home Run Derby…..”

The release of MLB the Show 2010 is still a couple of weeks away, but before you know it those Blu-ray discs will start dropping in our mailboxes. Hopefully, the online game will be much improved over the 09 version, and if that is indeed the case, you are in for some serious head-to-head gaming! As a member of this forum you will be given the opportunity to test both the game and your own prowess by engaging in spring training games with other members.

Finding your online opponents on mlbtheshow.co.uk will limit distances and connection lag, and will help you find games during normal day end evening hours as you don’t have to deal with multiple time zones. On top of that you will be able to discuss the game on this forum, express your setting preferences and find serious players instead of cheaters and children. If you like what you see in spring training, you may want to continue playing in (one of) the Online Franchise League(s) we aim to set up here.

This is the “road to online league play” we envision:

Spring training:
Try out multiple teams while you work on honing your MLB2010 skills. Report your results in the Spring Training forum section, mentioning both PSN’s, the teams used and the score. Spring training will probably last somewhere between 2 and 4 weeks.

League feature testing:
As an integral part of Spring Training a small group of players will extensively test the Online Franchise League feature of the game. How are disconnects handled? What happens with unresolved games? Does everything work as advertised? Those questions and others will need to be answered positively if we are to commit to an Online Franchise League. If league play within the game is a cumbersome affair, we’d rather go manual and set up a league from this site. Progress will be reported in the forum, and the course of action following from that will be determined while spring is on-going.

Settings and game speed:
During Spring Training we shall collect the necessary data to find out what the players’ preferences are, and when needed we’ll offer a choice of differently set up leagues. If at all possible, we’d like league players to have the opportunity to play in their own comfort zone, so please let us know how you would like to play your games!

League Play:
At any stage of the 2 to 4 week Spring Training period, players may indicate their interest in league play. We shall gauge this interest on the basis of spring activity, and send out invitations for league play while taking setting preferences and game frequency into consideration.

All of this will only be any good if the online game is worth its salt. So when you finally get your copy, make sure you go online and find out for yourself.

With just weeks to go until the release of MLB 10 The Show, we get a run down of one of the new features to hit the game this year ‘Catcher Mode’. With the increased ability to do as a Catcher does, it certainly makes taking on this position in RTTS an intriguing prospect.

“Hello again everyone. This is Eddy Cramm, Senior Designer for MLB 10: The Show, and I am here today to talk about the new Catcher Calling the Game feature. Catchy name, huh? Road to the Show, since its inception has been a very well received mode because it gives the gamer a very deep, realistic, and fun alternative to the traditional career mode. The mode allows you to create the guy you want to create, in the position you want him to play. Depending on the position that you choose, you will be asked to do different things in the field that are specific to your position. Last year, as we looked back on our game, there was one position we wanted to improve upon. That was the catcher….”
